Edamame beans, the new product in the CN range

15/10/2018

In a society that is becoming increasingly aware of healthy eating and lifestyle, Asian foods are being introduced and merged with Western cuisine in leaps and bounds. Hoteliers are focusing more on incorporating their healthy and nutritious products and fusing them with the most traditional dishes.

This is the case with Edamame, which despite being a very common appetiser in Japan, China, Taiwan, Hawaii and Korea, recently its consumption has expanded to Western cuisine and vegetarian diets.

These are immature soy beans in their pod, boiled with salt and served whole in the eastern world, but in the western world it is easy to find them as individual beans for consumption in salads and sautéed dishes or crushed to make a “Dip” type sauce that is spreadable.

These boiled soy beans are not only delicious, they also have multiple properties and health benefits. Highlights of its nutritional properties are:

  • High content in proteins of plant origin, calcium and iron.
  • Low in saturated fat, which is beneficial in preventing cholesterol.
  • Antioxidant properties.
  • High fibre content.
  • Very low salt content.
  • Source of vitamins such as folic acid, vitamins B1 and vitamin K.
  • Source of minerals like potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese and iron.

At Congelados de Navarra, our R&D department, works day in and day out analysing consumer tastes and developing new products and recipes to stay up to date in all concepts both vegan and flexitarian.
